The right balaclava depends more on the weather you are heading into than on the look. Fleece and knitted acrylic hold heat on a frosty morning, while thin polyester breathes, so you can ride or run in it without ending up soaked. Gloves and caps to match are in our military accessories.
For real cold, the fleece balaclava covers head, neck and lower face in soft fleece that does not itch. The knitted balaclava is 100% acrylic with a stretch fit, and the hooded balaclava wraps down to the top of your shoulders, with a built-in nose cover and two cords to tighten it. The winter balaclava combines a trapper hat and a face mask, lined with plush fleece, and the mask opens in the middle so you can drink without taking it off. Back in town, one of our wool berets keeps your head warm without the face cover.
Under a motorbike or bicycle helmet, go thin. The under helmet balaclava is stretchy polyester that follows the shape of your face. The cycling balaclava uses a fine but dense polyester that breathes and still keeps the wind out, and the stretch balaclava fits close, with nothing loose to flap at speed.
In the warmer months, the lightweight balaclava and the skull balaclava keep sun and dust off your face, handy on an outback track or a long day in the northern heat. Both are made to wear all year.
A neck gaiter covers less than a balaclava, and that is the point: you pull it over your nose when the wind picks up and drop it to your collar when it settles. The camo neck gaiter has a drawstring to snug it around your face and comes in forest, hunting or white camouflage. The fleece neck warmer is a plain tube of thick fleece velour for cold mornings, the kind of piece some people call a snood.
For costume nights, the skull ski mask and the summer balaclava come in printed designs, from skull faces to 3D prints. Black is the main colour across the range, with grey, blue, pink and red in the fleece and hooded styles. On bright, windy days, a thin balaclava pulled up to the nose and a pair of polarised sunglasses leave very little of your face out in the weather.
