Combat Boots

Lace-up and side-zip combat boots from ankle height to mid-calf, with rubber soles for rough tracks and wet ground.

Combat boots by height and build

Most combat boots here lace up past the ankle, though the height and the upper change a lot from pair to pair. The tallest reach mid-calf, like the black army boots for men, which are warm enough for winter. Ankle-height styles go on faster and feel lighter, and the black hiking shoes take the same look down to a low cut for everyday wear. For the wider family of military-style footwear, browse our military boots.

The upper decides how a boot copes with the bush. Split leather on the lightweight pair in green, beige or brown takes hard wear, and its reinforced rubber sole is built so sharp objects can't get through. Where heat is the problem, look for mesh: one pair of tactical boots for men has mesh panels through the shaft and across the forefoot to let heat out on a summer march, and weighs 650 g the pair, light for an 8 inch boot. If you mostly walk marked tracks rather than rough scrub, compare them with our hiking boots.

Soles, zips and linings

Every pair sits on rubber, and most have a deep tread. The khaki military style boots use a soft rubber outsole that keeps grip on snow and wet ground, with a woven lace system whose last two loops wrap the ankle. Several boots add a side zip so you can get them off without unlacing. One of those has a fleece lining all the way round and stiffened caps at the toe and heel, handy on a frosty morning at the farm. These are not sold as safety footwear, so check what your worksite requires before wearing them there.

Sizes, colours and care

Sizing is in European numbers, from 35 on the canvas pair up to 51 on a black mid-calf boot with a discreet zip. Black is the most common colour, followed by khaki, and you'll also find grey, brown, beige and army green across many styles, plus camouflage on the breathable pair. For a chunkier street look, one black boot comes with or without a fur lining. Synthetic leather wipes clean after a muddy day, while canvas is easier to brush once it's dry. Thick socks change how a high boot fits, so choose your size with the socks you'll actually wear, such as our hiking socks.
