Camping Gear

Camping gear for nights out bush: tents, hammocks with mosquito nets, rain ponchos and tarps, plus nesting pots and gas stoves for cooking once camp is set up.

Camping gear, sorted by how you sleep

Choosing camping gear starts with where you'll sleep, and the rest of the kit follows from that. If you want walls and a floor, our tents go from pop up domes that open on their own to solo tents that pack down to 40×12×12 cm.

Hammocks suit warm nights and campsites with solid trees. Several come with a dense mosquito net over a 260 x 140 cm bed, and one adds a removable canopy you can pitch over the bed or lay on the ground. Whichever way you sleep, a rain poncho is worth packing for the walk between the car and camp.

Tents from solo to family size

Solo tents are about weight and pack size. The bivvy tent weighs 0.8 kg with alloy poles, while the one man camping tent has an aluminium frame at 2.8 kg and room for one person plus a pack. Pop up tents are about speed instead. The 2 person model opens on a fibreglass spring frame in 2 to 3 seconds, and the family pop up tent comes in a 2 to 3 person or 3 to 4 person size, with a dome you can sit up in.

Cooking once camp is up

The pot sets nest inside each other, so a full kit packs as one lump in the rucksack. One set is hard anodised aluminium with a pot, frying pan and two plastic bowls. Another is bare stainless steel, with no coating on the cooking surfaces. The foldable gas stove goes into its drawstring bag once the pot arms fold down. For a bigger group, the split stove keeps the canister off to one side on a braided hose, so a wide pan sits low.

Shade, cover and colour

Some of the range isn't for sleeping under. Shade sails and camping tarps go up over the table on hot afternoons, and camo nets get strung over a deck or used as a hunting hide. Colours run from green, army green and camouflage to blue, orange and pink, so the kids can pick their own hammock. If the whole family is coming, start with a 4 person tent and build the rest of your camping equipment around it.
