A duffle bag is the one you fill fast and throw in the back of the ute. You get one long main compartment with carry handles, usually a shoulder strap too, and on one style the handles close together with hook-and-loop so they don't flap about. A few big rucksacks sit in this range as well, like the camo one with outer straps for a tent and a mat. If you'll be walking any distance with a heavy load, look through our backpacks too, because a hip belt spreads the weight in a way handles can't.
Some bags change how they carry. The duffel bag backpack goes on your back, over one shoulder or in your hand, and the duffle backpack is a tall kit bag in the sailor style, shut at the top with a metal clip through eyelets. For days when you only carry a phone and keys, a shoulder bag is easier to live with.
Oxford fabric turns up on most of them. The large duffle has several compartments and enough room for a holiday or a work trip, and the convertible style adds a polyester lining and a separate shoe compartment that keeps muddy runners away from clean clothes. The retro bag is closer to an old-school holdall, in dense canvas with leather-look reinforcements. Metal studs on the base save it from wear, and two-way zips open wide. One tactical style comes in a 40L or 60L size, with a water-resistant finish.
The foldable duffle bag is light 400D nylon and folds into its own inside pocket, so it can ride in a suitcase until you need the extra space on the way home. The range bag is set up differently. Adjustable dividers stop glasses and small gear sliding around, and the zips have wide pulls you can work with gloves on.
Colours run from black, khaki and green to brown and a handful of camo prints, jungle and desert among them. Water resistance changes from bag to bag, so if a sleeping bag or dry clothes have to survive a boat ride or a storm, roll them into a dry bag before they go in.
