Start with the cut when you choose womens cargo pants, because the pairs here go from slim and tidy to loose and baggy. Two styles, the high waisted camo pants and the camouflage cargo pants, are shaped for women at the rise and seat rather than taken in from a men's pattern. For walking days, team a high-rise pair with a light top from our hiking clothes.

If you like a close fit, the cuffed cargo pants are slim through the leg, and the slim fit pants have a tie belt that looks neat enough for the office. At the other end, the baggy cargo pants have a stretch high rise and elasticated hems that close at the ankle, while the khaki cargo pants have a loose cut and 10 pockets, so you can leave the handbag at home. Cotton or polyester

Cotton feels soft and breathes in summer. The cotton cargo pants are 100% cotton with strong seams and sturdy buttons, styled after army fatigues, and the camouflage cargo pants mix cotton with elastane so they give when you crouch. Most of the other pairs are polyester or polyester blends. The baggy camo pants are quick to dry and hold their shape through washing, and the black cargo pants use a light, hard-wearing polyester with 6 pockets.

For cold mornings, the high waisted hiking pants are a thick polyester with a brushed inner face that holds body heat, on a 4cm elastic waistband. They have straight legs with room through the hips and thighs.

Camo prints or plain colours

If you want womens camo pants, the choice runs from green or blue camo leggings for the gym to relaxed camo joggers and camo track pants with an elastic, drawstring waist. The baggy camo pants come in brighter prints such as pink, purple, yellow and orange camouflage. To skip the print, the green cargo pants keep the military look in a single colour, and black, khaki and green cover most other styles.
