A bomber jacket stops at the waist, and the ribbed knit at its collar, cuffs and hem is what gives it that short, gathered shape. That knit also closes the gaps where a cold wind finds its way in. Most styles here come in black, green or khaki, and a few add blue, navy, grey, burgundy, purple or white. For serious padding, our puffer jackets are the next step up in warmth.
Start with how cold it gets where you live. The embroidered bomber jacket uses a windproof ripstop that doesn't crease much, a good lighter shell for the months between seasons. The mens flight jacket is padded, with a water-resistant polyester shell and a thick ribbed collar for wet, windy days. For proper winter, look at the two hooded styles. One has a thick lining and an adjustable hood. The other pairs a velour-effect cotton lining with a faux-fur hood that zips off when spring comes round. Any of them goes over a shirt or tee from our hiking clothes.
Some bombers wear their decoration loudly. The mens bomber jacket has embroidered patches on the chest and sleeves, a flag patch among them, plus snap-down shoulder straps and a large embroidered plane across the back. The flight bomber jacket keeps its patches to the chest and both sleeves, with a full front zip and a zip pocket on the left sleeve. If you prefer a clean look, the mens black bomber jacket is plain polyester with one zip pocket inside and another outside, in sizes XS to 4XL.
The cotton bomber jacket is cut like a classic field jacket, in a 60% cotton and 40% polyester blend with reinforced seams, ribbed hems with a little stretch and a dual zip. It feels closer to a work jacket than a fashion piece. The mens fleece lined jacket buttons up and has a fleecy collar for cold days. For women, the utility jacket is a polyester and cotton mix in khaki, black, navy, army green or white, sized XS to 3XL.
Colour decides most of how you wear it. A green or khaki bomber sits well with jeans, or with our cargo pants and boots for a rougher look, while black goes with nearly anything you own. If you like a hoodie underneath, size up so the zip still closes over it.
