Hiking shoes keep you light on day walks, and the sole is the first thing to check. The trail hiking shoes pair a mesh, suede and TPU upper with a dual-density foam midsole and an anti-slip rubber outsole for wet rocks and loose terrain. The low cut pairs sit on a full rubber sole with directional lugs, plus a toe bumper at the front. For heavy loads and rough country an ankle shaft helps, and our military boots are cut for that kind of work.
Wide feet have two options here. The wide toe box hiking shoes are built wider and higher on a moulded EVA midsole, and a boot version gives the forefoot more room so the toe doesn't pinch. The barefoot styles go the other way, with flexible rubber soles that let your toes move, and the barefoot trail shoes have a spacer fabric upper for summer. If you plan to carry a pack for several days, step up to our hiking boots.
On hot days, mesh does the work. The breathable hiking shoes combine a mesh upper with a cushioned midsole and deep natural rubber lugs, while the slip on hiking shoes mix mesh with lightweight leather and skip laces altogether. The barefoot walking shoes weigh about 500 g per pair. For hot, dry country, the desert boots sit high on deep lug soles, and one pair has a vented structure. Mesh lets water in as easily as air, so these are not waterproof hiking shoes. Pack dry socks if the track crosses a creek.
Lined pairs take over in the cooler months. The mens winter walking boots have a plush lining all the way through and go up to size 48. Faux fur lines the mens hiking boots, and the winter boots with fur add wide rubber lugs that hold on ice.
