Daypacks

A daypack sized for a few hours on the track or a full day in the bush, from light vest-cut packs to roll-tops built for wet weather.

How big should your day pack be?

A day pack only has to hold what you need between leaving the car and getting back to it, so start with litres. The hydration-compatible pack carries twelve litres in a vest cut: water, a shell and food for half a day, and it stays still when you pick up the pace. Between twenty and thirty litres there is room for spare layers, lunch and a rain jacket. The 25L walker is a proper hiking daypack, with an expandable section and a hip belt that takes the weight on long descents. The tactical and camo packs open to 55 litres, closer to our backpacks for an overnight trip.

On a hot summer walk the back panel matters as much as the size. Many of these packs use a mesh back, honeycomb on some and tensioned on others, and several have air-cushion shoulder straps that keep the weight off the tops of your shoulders. If you drink on the move, the hydration-compatible pack is built for it. For a dedicated bladder setup, see our hydration pack range.

Keeping the rain out

Packs here handle wet weather in different ways. The waterproof walker has a PVC body with welded seams and a heavy sealed zip, so there is no coating to wear off. The expedition pack closes with a roll top, and you set its size by the number of rolls; it also packs into its own pocket. The adventure and all-weather packs use water-repellent fabric and keep a rain cover in a base compartment for when it really comes down. Others use treated or water-resistant nylon, so read each listing to see how much rain it is made for.

Women's fits and packs for the commute

Three packs are cut for women: a light 22L, a 20L with S-shaped straps and a 3D mesh back, and a 35L that stretches to two days of trekking. For work, the all-weather walker has a padded sleeve for a laptop up to 15.6 inch, and the tactical pack has a 16 inch laptop compartment plus MOLLE across the front. Black and green keep things low-key. Orange, blue, red and purple are there if you want something brighter.

Spare clothes for the drive home and camp kit you won't need on the walk can wait in the car, packed in one of our duffle bags.
