Every folding shovel we carry is a steel blade on a handle that folds or comes apart, so it fits in a pack. The small folding shovel is carbon steel and folds right down, and the mini one comes apart into sections that pack into its pouch. Pack one with the rest of our survival gear.
Most do more than dig. The military folding shovel is a 5-in-1 tool with a saw, a pick, a compass and a bottle opener on the one piece, and the folding camping shovel puts the same mix behind a soft rubber grip. For a trip away from town, keep it in the car with a first aid kit.
The folding army shovel digs, works as a hoe and cuts with its serrated edge, and it comes with a camo carry case. The camping shovel has a serrated edge too, on a fibreglass nylon handle that keeps it light. For roots and packed soil, the forged steel one with a reinforced folding joint comes in three types, and the carbon steel one has a pick, a saw and a storage cover.
The folding shovel multi tool extends to 67 cm, with a manganese steel head, an aluminium alloy handle, a screwdriver and a corkscrew built in. The multi function folding shovel suits gardening and tree planting as much as camping. The folding shovel and pick has a black commando look and comes apart to slip into a bag. Several models have a compass in the handle, but for real navigation take a map compass.
