A trail camera sits on a tree or a post and records what walks past, day and night. Every model here uses infrared for night shots, and most reach about 20 metres in the dark. If you hunt, it belongs with the rest of our hunting optics.
A hunting camera tells you what came through, and a pair of binoculars shows you where to look in the first place. The motion activated trail camera is the simple all-rounder, full HD in an ABS housing, compact enough to carry in and strap up.
If you can't get back to the camera often, look at how it is powered and how it sends photos. The solar trail camera pairs a 3W solar panel with a built-in battery and 4 AA batteries. The WiFi trail camera runs on AA batteries or an external supply, with an IP67 rating. The 4G one sends its photos straight to your smartphone, so you see what came past without walking out to check.
Plain infrared LEDs give off a faint red glow, while 940 nm LEDs stay dark, which is why the no glow trail camera and the night vision model use them for discreet watching after dark. The game trail camera has a 2.0 inch screen and an IP65 rating against dust and water, and the hunting trail camera films in 4K with a wide 110° view. For the walk in before dawn, add a pair of night vision goggles.
